The year-long Lost Stations programme is opening up a world of digital art for participants and audiences in Barrow-in-Furness and Cumbria and there is a whole host of opportunities this year to see, experience, and get involved with digital art.

Delivered by Signal Film and Media from our base at Cooke’s Studios on Abbey Road, the Lost Stations programme features public talks and masterclasses with a long list of respected and innovative world-class artists such as Rachel Maclean, Mishka Henner, Henry Iddon and Marshmallow Laser Feast. In addition, commissioned artists including Felicity Hammond, will unveil new work inspired by Barrow-in-Furness.  There will also be further hands on activities open to people of all ages and levels, and for schools and community groups including coding sessions, digital photography workshops, film screenings and exhibitions. For our full programme of upcoming events, please visit the Lost Stations website.

Kindly funded by Arts Council England, the programme includes a valuable opportunity for emerging artists to focus and refine their practice with support from Signal Film & Media through a pioneering digital art programme led by digital artist Sam Meech, which culminates with a group exhibition at Cooke’s studios in June 2017.

It’s going to be fantastic to try and bring some of the county’s best creative individuals together to explore new creative processes.  Cumbria is full of talented people who have rich and wonderful ideas so we’re really excited to have been given this funding to support more people to follow their interests. We hope to enable people to go that one step further in exploring what digital art means and in developing their own work.

This programme is full of opportunity, whether you apply for the mentee course, take part in a workshop or come along to one of the artist talks.’

– Loren Slater, Director

Stemming from Signal’s ‘Lost Journey’s’ heritage project, which ended in August 2016, ‘Lost Stations’ will again take inspiration from the significant heritage of the town’s railway lines.
